An ABA-based Preschool and private Kindergarten, serving children ages 3 to 5 years old. Fill out the Pre-Enrollment Form.
Our goal is to facilitate significant change and growth in children of all abilities. We prepare our children to reach their full potential and achieve future success through the use of evidence-based and data driven teaching methods.
We believe that children learn best when they are engaged, motivated, and involved and when they are given the correct support and challenges in order to reach their full potential. Teachers, parents, and other caregivers work together at Catalyst Academy, offering a play-based, developmentally-appropriate, and highly individualized learning experience for children of all abilities.
Academics and School Readiness
Catalyst Academy uses an array of evidence-based assessments to target an individualized path towards school readiness for each student, focusing on the whole-child and covering all developmental domains. Developmentally appropriate academic curriculum is infused into the play-based approach to foster life-long learning skills and school readiness.
The Verbal Behavior (VB) approach is a form of ABA, based off of Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior. Catalyst Academy uses the VB-MAPP assessment to identify language deficits and map out individualized educational goals to help children acquire functional language skills. The VB approach “draws attention to not only what a child is saying but why he or she is using language” (Barbera and Rasmussen, 2007).
Students will learn developmentally-appropriate social skills that can foster social engagement with peers and adults. These social skills will come from Social Competencies, such as: creating and following a group plan, having bodies and brains in the group, whole body listening, flexible/stuck thinking, size of the problem, and sharing an imagination.
Catalyst Academy focuses on students gaining functional and academic skills first. Then, the focus shifts toward generalizing the skills across other environments (home and other social settings), leading to an increase in independence throughout the child’s whole environment. Examples: toileting, dressing, personal hygiene, eating, and social engagement with peers and adults.
Classes will run Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:00noon with year-round instruction
Holidays and Breaks
Holidays and Breaks will follow the Davis County School District’s calendar.
